The Royal Wedding

BY EMILY PENSABENE

On May 19, 2018, many people around the world tuned into the Royal Wedding, known as the Modern Wedding.

The wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry actually went against tradition because their wedding was held on a Saturday, royal weddings are supposed to happen on a weekday, according to Vogue.

Their wedding took place in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in the afternoon and was marked the 16th nuptial in this specific castle since 1863. Similarly, in order to marry Prince Harry got married in this castle, the Queen had to sign the Instrument of Consent, an official document that gave Prince Harry permission to marry Markle, Vogue added.

The place of worship seats 800 people and the Royal family paid for the main part of the wedding: the service; flowers; decorations; and reception.

Everything from the cake to the flowers to the music for this wedding was very elegant. Vogue confirmed that the lemon elderflower cake was made by Violet Bakery’s Cake Ptak, who was sure to make the Spring season part of the design. Knowing that the Spring season has plenty of beauty, the flowers, one of the best aspects of Spring, came from the Crown Estate and Windsor Park. According to “Royal Wedding 2018,” they were an medley of white garden roses, peonies, foxgloves, and branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, arranged by Philippa Craddock. Lastly, the music included hymns and choral works from director James Vivian.

Not only was the decor and scenery noteworthy, but also the guest list. Sir Elton John performed for Markle and Prince Harry, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He was only one among quite a few celebrities. Others included: Oprah; the Beckhams; Reese Witherspoon; British royalty; Serena Williams; and the list doesn’t end there.

Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland was in attendance but sadly, Markle’s father could not attend because of his health. According to Vogue, because Markle wanted to give him space to nurse himself back to health, Meghan asked the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, to walk her down the aisle during her wedding.

Ever since Prince Harry and Markle were engaged, they have received a lot of attention from the media and to others who wanted to celebrate their love. In lieu of any gifts from attendees or commoners, the pair requested that all of their gifts be donated to charity.
