Life Before COVID-19: Taking It for Granted

By LAUREN ABBATE

The invisible global enemy, COVID-19, has completely shifted the world and how it operates. The pandemic has taken thousands of lives and infected hundreds of thousands of people in the recent months. With that being said, many people across the globe are beginning to recognize the beauty of what life was like before the pandemic. The coronavirus allowed certain aspects of life, that were once taken for granted, to shine in a new light.

Human connection. Most of us, if not all, crave human connection and human interaction. For most people, socialization is a fact of life and something we struggle living without. With around seven billion people across the globe, it wasn’t a hard thing to come across.

But now, however, the lack of human connection has made the once everyday thing a past idea. We can no longer be around loved ones outside of our immediate home families. Although unfortunate, the coronavirus precautions are forcing many of us to reevaluate our previous lives that we took for granted.

As human interaction becomes faint, people are beginning to realize the privilege of having families. Regardless of what “family” means to you, we all need them now more than ever. With this new normal being built, family bonds are becoming stronger and most of us need those shoulders to lean on.

It is difficult to completely grasp the idea that this one strain of virus can spread and affect hundreds of thousands of families, completely clear out restaurants, plummet the stock market, bring society to a halt, and take away the many things we once took for granted.

Ironically, the world needs to come together by staying apart. Under normal circumstances, people would say to hug your loved ones and come together as communities, however, this situation is far from normal. Life will return as we once knew it, but for now, focus on the beauties of life and hold on to the good times.
