The Westlake Players have had a huge impact on the Class of 2017. Most of the members have participated in theater throughout their high school careers, and now, these careers are coming to an end. The final production for these committed seniors was Disney’s Little Mermaid.

Matthew Orlander, CCRD for the Westlake Players was very excited to be part of a classic and magical Disney show. He stated, “The experience was memorable and very joyous, I will miss the seniors and all the cast members I came in contact will, but I am still very glad I got to know them and perform with them.”

The Little Mermaid sold out five shows, just like last year’s production of Grease. After the show, the cast took pictures with all the kids and adults that came to see the show. The lobby was set up as different parts of the show. For example, there was Eric’s castle, Ursula’s layer, and Triton’s throne. “It was a great way to interact with kids,” Orlander noted. “I liked how we got the kids involved.”

“Westlake Players has been a positive impact on my life,” says Orlander.  “I learn a lot of valuble life lessons and made countless friends. I will be eternally greatful for this experience.”

As President of Westlake Players, it is bittersweet to be graduating and leaving this club. Westlake Players has made a huge impact on me. All my friends are in this group and without it, I wouldn’t have friends. I truly developed a bond with people and teachers in this club. I can talk to my director, Mr. Cutrone about anything and everything and I’m very greatful to have him in my life. Theater also helped me develop people skills and public speaking skills. I can talk to anyone about anything and go up and do presentations in class and anywhere else.

I always encourage kids to do theater because it will help them develop life skills and create friendships that last for a long time. “They should stay committed to it. Although it has its hardhips at times, it’s alays rewarding in the end” states Orlander. “It’s a great learning experience and it will help them become better people.”
