Black Lives Matter

By MANPREET KAUR

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was held down and arrested by a white cop for using a fake $20 bill.

He was held down by a Minneapolis police officer’s knee and was choked to death. Without listening to his justification, the aggressive cop murdered Floyd maybe because of his skin color.

The job of the police is to protect and serve the people of their country.

However, after this tragedy, do we feel safe in such a community, where police mistreat colored people? What if George Floyd was a white man who was caught using a fake $20 bill, would he have suffered the same painful death he did now as a black man?

This tragedy has brought awareness about the racism that black communities face around the world.

This isn’t the first case we have seen where colored people faced discrimination. For many years, black people have been treated unfairly compared to white people, and they have faced many discriminations and racism.

Black people are humans and they deserve to be treated equally as white people.

We all are human beings and everyone deserves to be treated equally, despite their race, gender, or religion. Skin color is a part of a physical appearance; it does not determine any human traits or someone’s personality.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”.

However, black people still face discrimination because of their skin color.

We, as a society, should end discrimination and racism because all human beings are equal and deserve to be treated fairly. We should stand up against racism and peacefully protest for human rights that everyone deserves.

Instead of witnessing unfair treatments that black communities face, we should speak up and encourage others to get rid of the beliefs that the colored races are considered inferior.

If you ever witness someone facing discrimination or racism, please stand up and take action. As teens, we could use social media to help spread awareness and make a change in our world!
