Summer Vacation on a Budget

By Adriana Escobedo

Everybody’s favorite time of the year is almost here! The long-awaited summer days are what many people need after a stressful year of hard work. But, let’s face it; going on vacation can be very expensive, not to mention the chaotic pre-planning that comes with it. Guess what? A fun vacation doesn’t require a lot of money! Here are some vacation ideas that can be used this summer, without worrying about the price!

Do you want to reconnect with nature, especially after spending days in front of a computer? If yes, then be sure to visit a nearby national park which is filled with long hiking trails that are waiting to be explored. There will definitely be various sight-seeing points along the way and there is no doubt that you will be revived with nature’s beauty. You won’t even have to worry about going out to eat when you can have a nice picnic right at the park.

Stay with the traditional outing and go camping for a few days at the nearest site. You may have to pay a nominal fee, but spending a night outdoors is definitely worth it. You can probably picture yourself camping right now: setting up tents, kayaking, fishing, and eating s'mores around a campfire. You and your family are sure to have a blast and make new memories.

Instead of choosing to spend your vacation out of the country, you can visit a nearby state by having a road trip. Sure, the movies usually portray road trips as chaotic or out-of-control, but they are actually a fun way of bonding with your family or a group of friends. You can walk around a different state and go to their historic landmarks, museums, or exciting attractions.

Visit beaches, amusement parks, festivals, or your nearby farms for a day trip. There are many great options that don’t necessarily have to cost a lot. If you can’t find a beach, you can replace that with going to a bay, lake, or gulf. Also, most festivals are free to the public, so make sure to stop by those too!

Finally, you can simply stay at another family member or friend’s home to spend time with the people you love. Be a good guest though! Buy or make dinner for them to show your gratitude. Hey, maybe they’ll ask you to come over next summer!

Keep in mind that there are various tools that can help you save money for your vacation. The low prices of AirBnB are optimal when traveling to other countries and you can use apps like Groupon to help you find deals for activities and attractions.

Make sure to keep all of these suggestions in mind when you are thinking of what to do during the summer!

Enjoy your vacation!
