Study Hall Benefits

By Maeve Walsh

Study halls, when used effectively, present students with many benefits. During sport and play season or just simply when students have a lot of work, this gives them time to get a head start on work and study for upcoming tests or quizzes. Study halls can also help build time management skills.

Students who balance AP and honors classes typically have a lot of work, which requires more time and effort. Although students are aware of the time and effort before signing up, the demand for these courses can be stressful. Study halls provide students a set time during the day to help complete their work, whether that be assignments or studying.

A similar approach can be taken to students who are involved in school plays and athletics. Time that is spent at practice can be regained during a study hall. This is beneficial to the individual because it  ensures they will have the needed time to  complete work without taking away all time from a social life and personal time.

Junior, Jason Chiera, agrees, “ Study hall has been so beneficial for it [his day to day]. It allows me to study and complete my work, which then allows me to increase my hours at work, and have a reasonable bedtime.”

Lastly, time management skills are built. Students need to use this time wisely or work needed to be completed will build up, overwhelming students and creating even more procrastination. No student wants. Individuals can prioritize work from certain classes in order to use their time effectively. Study halls are not a social scene, rather they aid the student's ability to succeed.
