Benefits of Senior Year

By Maeve Walsh

Being a senior comes with more flexibility and independence, especially when it comes to being able to leave for lunch, study halls, and late arrival. It gives us time to manage our workload while also managing the college admission process.

As seniors, we have to work on application, essays, supplement while still balancing class work, tests, and quizzes. The freedom of being able to leave makes this balance much more stress free and possible. Bridget Doherty says she, “Uses her time effectively, giving her time to go to the math/writing lab and study while still having the ability to enjoy her senior year.”

Another big benefit of senior year is our senior experience, which includes internships and independent studies. According to Salutatorian, Isabelle Chacko “It’s great because it gives you exposure to the future you might want. These opportunities let us explore career paths, gain skills, and understand how a workplace operates. It helps us develop many abilities that will set us up for success by creating a strong foundation of skills needed throughout college, and then a job force. An internship helps bridge the gap between school and life after graduation, which will hopefully make this transition easier for us.

Lastly, senior year is filled with so many memorable events that celebrate the end of high school. Things like homecoming, spirit week, senior nights, and special spring break tips create lasting memories with life long friends. Isabella Celentano from student council says, “It is the most fun year, creating time long memories by dressing up with your friends, and ending the week with a pep rally then homecoming.”

All these experiences make senior year meaningful and fun, which marks it as a special conclusion to an important chapter in all of our lives.
