Westlake's Musical
By Ellie Georgioudakis
For this year's musical Westlake High School put on the show Les Miserables. During the 19th century, spanning between 1815 -1832 and culminating in the June rebellion in Paris, main character, Jean Valjean, a former convict, sees a new life while relentlessly pursued by the obsessive Inspector Javert.
Along the way, Jean Valjean cares for Cosette, the orphaned daughter of a struggling woman, Fantine, while revolution brews in Paris.
Exploring themes of sacrifice, morality, and social injustice, the actors do an excellent job of shaping the lives of the characters as they navigate love, loss, and the fight for freedom. Although the cast is full of remarkable students, the musical would not have been as successful without the help of Mrs. Denler; director and music director, Mrs. Gina; the choreographer, Mr. Dan Enoch; assistant music director, Maura Spruck; assistant director, and Mr. Appel; pit conductor.
Bringing this story to the stage, lead roles, Gabriel McCabe as Jean Valjean; Henry Sliss as Inspector Javert; Jade Soto as Fantine; Gianna Occhiogrossi as Cosette; Patrick Weemeals as Marius; Addy Kelly as Eponine; Lucas Finkel as Enjolras; Alyssa Occhiogrossi as Madame Thénardeir; Tycho Force as Thénardier; Regina Sica as Little Cosette; and Duncan Force as Gavroche, were nothing short of spectacular.
In honor of their last show, seniors: Gabriel McCabe; Maura Spruck; Henry Sliss; Jade Soto; Patrick Weemeals; Alyssa Occhiogrossi; Gianna Occhiogrossi; Savannah Park; Lauddly Medard; Michael Newell; Cloe Perez; Brianna Paul; Lucas Pinero; Andrew Pagano; Jordan Abreu; and Jayden Roazzi; who have been working on the plays since middle school, have come to the end of their journey. Throughout the years, their special relationship as a cast and outstanding performances have served to set the stage for all underclassmen. Each of the seniors is a role model, providing all future Westlake Players with an example to certainly embody.
Although every remaining member of Westlake Players would love the seniors to stay forever, it is evident that their success will continue in college.
Last, but not least, a special shoutout to our senior crew members, Leo Trapani and Paul Occiogrossi, and Mrs.Avella, as their dedication to the creation is perhaps most important of all. Their creativity and presence during those last nights have been the backbone of making this show happen. This show was made possible by the tremendous help of our costume ladies and prop crew. We truly appreciate everyone who contributed to the success of this performance, and we can't wait to amaze you once more next year!
