The Cliffs: Daunting Heights, Aching Muscles
By Laney Avezzano
Mrs. Nicodemo and Mr. Romeo’s Project Adventure classes enjoyed another annual trip to The Cliffs with the opportunity to test the skills they acquired over the course.
After spending weeks in class learning and practicing to tie figure-eight knots, barrel knots, and the techniques of belaying, the seniors in Project Adventure put their new skills to the test.
Once they arrived at The Cliffs, seniors tried three different activities: vertical rock climbing, with the help of employee coaches belaying them. Bouldering on shorter walls without any safety ropes, and getting the chance to belay their own classmates.
Students pushed past their mental and physical limits with the encouragement from their classmates and teachers, making for an unforgettable school trip.
The goal of both the Project Adventure class and the trip to The Cliffs is to push students' beyond their comfort zone to intentionally embrace uncertainty. In doing this, students are encouraged to break routines, foster personal growth, and build resilience. By tackling these new challenges, students are better prepared for their futures, knowing that they will be able to face and overcome failure and build potential and self-confidence.
