Homecoming at Westlake

By Maeve Walsh

For many schools, the Homecoming game is something many students, friends, and families look forward to. The excitement that is built up all week long is finally unfolding in front of the whole town. Specifically, in Thornwood, the game that is the focus is the football game when the boy's varsity football team faces off against the opponent, fighting for the win.

Westlake’s Homecoming looks like all of the town is coming together, and it really is something great. The students section is loud and cheerful throughout the whole game, showcasing our school’s pride. An awesome fireworks show is displayed at halftime after the cheer team performs their show, adding to the joyful and celebratory mood of yet another great year at Westlake.

According to Sophomore, Nick DiNapoli, “Homecoming is exciting because the whole town comes to support the football team.”

Football is not the only game that is looked forward to, as both girls' and boys' varsity soccer, boys tennis, and girls' volleyball have a Homecoming game to compete in also. These games are played in the week leading up to Homecoming, with fans also coming out to support these players.

Homecoming would not be possible without the Student Council because they spend an extremely long time planning for this event. They make sure the vendors are set up and have a lot of options for the game.

Junior Danielle Michilli says, “ Homecoming is an exhilarating event, especially for the Student Council since they spend months in advance planning.”

Co-Senior Advisor, Mrs. Oliveras even said, “I loved seeing the tremendous student support and enthusiasm in the stands as well as at the vendors. I thought it was an amazing halftime firework show.”

The fireworks are a symbol of a great start to the year!
